J25 Day 26: Homeward Bound

We slept really well after two busy days. We both had very tired feet by the end of yesterday. Michele commented that now her last performance was done she could relax and enjoy some vacation. Hah! It’s time to go home.

It was another great trip to Japan but I don’t think I’ll miss these low doorways. I think I’m stooping all the time when I’m inside.

Like last time I’m not exchanging my Yen at the airport, I’m sure we’ll come back. There are so many more regions of Japan to explore:

  • Shikoku and the art of Shōdo island
  • The west coast and Sado island
  • North of Tokyo and Hokkaido

Last time I wrote some notes for Future Ken, and here are a couple of more.

  • When in Tokyo stay in the first ring districts, like Kichijoji, and not in central Tokyo. Much more interesting neighborhoods and worth the extra train trip.
  • Avoid sights or restaurants listed on a “Best Of” list, Instagram, etc. It will be mobbed. Equally good things are not that hard to find.
  • Walk Japan is well run and might be a good idea again, but not for the whole trip
  • Most restaurants, if they look good, are good
  • Renting a car is feasible and opens up possibilities
  • Michele’s taiko connections are amazing. Hosting visitors in Carlsbad leads to good things.
  • We should go back to Hachijojima for the 24 hour challenge
  • The wait for a shuttle bus back to the LAX Budget lot takes a long time. Maybe look into using the Economy lot next time.
  • JAL Premium Economy is indeed Premium.
