Ocean Beach

I rode the N Judah Muni tram from downtown out to the end of the line at Ocean Beach.

I stopped in at the “Java Beach Cafe” for some lunch. They were very friendly and I had high hopes for my veggie wrap, but alas the advertised hummus (I love hummus) was the ever so slightest smears. After my mostly-lettuce-wrap I walked the boardwalk.

Up to the old Cliff House, which looked empty. Maybe it’s just an event space now.

Someone in a little booth was selling $2 tickets for the camera obscura. In retrospect I should have gone in, even though it didn’t look promising. I remember being underwhelmed when I was a kid.

There was a guy walking out on the sea wall at the old Sutro Baths, with a nervous wife looking on.

Around the point, “Lands End”, is a monument to the USS San Francisco. The wings of the command tower are part of the monument, with large holes blown through from the naval battle of Guadalcanal. The ship saw many battles in WWII, worth reading about!

From Lands End it was up to the Palace of Fine Arts (nothing special on exhibit), then back across Golden Gate Park to the N Judah.
